some photos

long have i owned what i’m told was once considered a good camera (a canon from like 2007?) and not really taken any photos with it. for no reason, i guess, i decided to have a crack this week; or really i didn’t even decide, i just did it. two times i have gone out just to see if i could find anything to take a photo of. here are some of the fruits of my labour.

the real fruits though are just participating in the grass toucher lifestyle. i sort of hate my neighbourhood even though there’s nothing particularly wrong with it; suburbs have always got me down, especially melbourne’s. but a bummer is in the mind of the beholder, and popping out with a camera tunes the mind to a more optimistic frequency. there’s somethin’ to see if you’re lookin’. i saw a baby bird in a nest, a pontiac trans am, and an xbox abandoned in the undergrowth.

of course, i did already have to fend off some dickhead who thought my walking around in the rain with a big camera was suspicious and demanded to know was i “from the area” (yeah) and “where” (why lol). he backed off when i didn’t, and i offered him a portrait.

unusually for me, there’s some sort of self-consciousness that i feel in sharing these. i suppose i don’t feel i know what it would mean to be good or bad at photography. i don’t care much, and it wouldn’t bother me if someone thought i was shit at it, but something about not knowing what sorts of things would even factor in touches a tiny anxious neuron that’s unbothered by, for instance, drawing.

The close up between the branches of the tree(?) is really captivating to me. The composition makes it FEEL like a landscape shot, which in turn has a woodland-fantasy-kinda whimsy to it.
