Hello Joe.
Since you seem to post a lot about level design tools, I wanted to know if you know of any level design tools other than Scythe? Preferably one that could be used for something other than Unreal Engine. I’ve been attempting to make levels in Blender and it is very quickly driving me up a wall, across the ceiling, and back down the other wall.
Honestly, not really. Trenchbroom is a good level design tool, but it’s for BSP based engines where the “turn it into mesh” step is a compile to .bsp, so that’s not very generally applicable. If we’re talking level design tools that output mesh you could use anywhere, there’s basically two: Scythe and Source 2’s Hammer, and the latter’s export can be weird.
What I’d recommend doing if you don’t want to use Unreal is to download it anyway just to use Scythe, and export your Scythe meshes to .fbx. That should work perfectly with whatever you’re doing – Scythe is just a mesh editor, nothing unusual about its output.
